The past week, and this one we're in the middle of was and will be a bit hectic. I've been traveling for work and haven't had much time to sit down and think about things to blog about. I have had some time for knitting of course, but I suppose as much as I enjoy blogging, I enjoy knitting firstly.
My business trip last week brought me to Nashville, TN. I've been to Memphis before but not Nashville, and I found the city friendly, a good city to walk in, and more importantly a good city with a great yarn store. I visited Angel Hair Yarn Co. and was very impressed by the large yarn selection neatly stacked in wooden bookcases which were by the way complemented by the lovely wood floors. The staff were very helpful, and there were customers wiling away the afternoon chatting, knitting, and sharing. I wish I could have stayed for the Mason-Dixon book signing but I had a very early morning the next day...they don't call it a business trip for nothing. I did find some excellent yarns to take home.

Plastic bag handles & Mountain Colors Hand-Painted Yarn in Lupine which I'm hoping to turn into a felted hand bag to carry guess what?? More knitting of course.

Schaeffer Yarns Laurel, Cotton Color Concepts for Memorable Women in Empress Wu Zhao
I'm just totally loving the Laurel yarns, the hand is so soft and sturdy and the colors are absolutely scrumptious. It's the same yarn I made Nina's birthday shawl from (except hers was in Victoria Woodhull). I picked out the same yarn in Frida Kahlo for my Mom's birthday shawl which has now been converted for me since Mom expressed that the color was a bit too much for her, so...enter Empress Wu Zhao.
The concept is really cool. Each hand painted color scheme is named after a famous and distinguished woman Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to ever run for President of the United States (1872); Frida Kahlo was a famous Mexican painter who endured great physical and emotional pain and depicted this in her works; Empress Wu Zhao the only woman to rule China in her own name. Cool huh?
Anyway, this week, I'm off to Baltimore, MD, not too far away from home so the travel time won't be so arduous. I'm not sure if I'll be able to hit up a yarn store there, but I'll be sure to report if I do.
And now for your viewing pleasure, I bring you the most adorable picture of Fred.
