Oh my, that’s swift, and boy is it steamy in here

A few new gadgets for the knitting inspired. I got me a swift and a steamer. The swift was acquired from JoAnn Fabrics. It’s a beautiful wood swift for a fraction of the price at most other places online, there’s a 40% off coupon on the website. I was very pleased with the swiftyness of it. Rich liked the way it looked that he insisted on spinning it round and round.

The steamer is a Scunci Steamer. So far it seems to work well and seems durable. I’ve only used it to get wrinkles off a shirt, but I’m sure it will work quite well with blocking as the thing can spray like hell. If I had to defend myself with this steamer I think I’d have a pretty good chance. I initially bought the Rowenta Steam and Press Steambrush but was unhappy with piddly amount of water it held hence the reason for the exchange.

On the completion front, I finally finished my sister Nina’s new and improved birthday shawl. It was a very simple design of CO 48st and M1 after the first stitch and before the last stitch of every row until I ran out of yarn. The whole piece was knit in garter st. I like the simplicity of it as it lends a more casual feel than a lacy one. I think it will look good with jeans on a summer’s eve.

I also finished a small felted bag loosely based on the French Market Bag for Nina’s birthday as well. And check this out, I made a little label to put on the inside. I was informed that this is uber dorky! I used polyester ribbon and melted the edges to keep it from fraying, and oh so delicately hand embroidered the label.

Hmmm, what else, the Streaker’s Shrug is well on its way, I have a feeling that it will be finished before Easter Sunday, so I’ll actually have something to wear.

The Leaf Lace Socks have been put on hold temporarily so has the Super Socks for Mom’s birthday—The Streaker’s Shrug has commanded my full attention.
