Ribbit

I find myself confounded once more, wondering how in the hell did I end up at Uniquities…again? And how in the hell did I end up with more supplies for another project…again? And why does this keep happening to me…again? And again? The knitting project that caused the detour is Knitty.com’s French Market Bag. My justification? I need more room to schlep stuff around in (ya right?) and that Market Bag screams schlep. I could definitely put more knitting in that bag, I bet it would fit two shawl projects at once, and some socks, or some fiber for spinning, some snacks, and one of my dogs, I am certainly going to try. Seriously, watch me.

I started out with three shades of green to make the bag striped, but then realized as things developed that I really didn’t like the striping and felt a very strong dislike bordering on hate and proceeded to frog more than 3/4 of the bag while watching the Sopranos and Big Love Sunday night, which by the way have me hooked. Brooke the roommate was very sad for me. I consoled her while I frogged.

Moving back further into the weekend, I had started the Fiber Trends Lacy Leaf Socks and was just amazed at my utter capacity to follow instructions and not f*%# things up. I felt really good about myself, chanting the instructions as I knitted, feeling pride as little lacy leaves miraculously appeared before me. And then as things progressed I realized that I amazed myself too soon because I couldn’t, no matter how much I stretched the sock, I couldn’t shove my foot through the damn thing. I realized that I was making lacy socks for an elf, or a very very 2-dimensional version of myself. So, I frogged those socks and started again with larger needles.

Despite all the frogging I was able to complete 2 projects. I finished the shawl that was to be mine but will now be birthday-gifted to my sister and I finished the robins egg blue socks. I must say that I am mildly disappointed with these socks because the blue that made me want to knit them in the first place was very very sparse; and those crazy Fortissima Socka Germans have snuck in the colors of the German flag on the sock. I have nothing against Germans, nor do I have anything against German colors, but I was really excited about that blue, and instead I got at least 2 German flags per sock. Also, Kudos to Brooke who finished her first felted bag.

Nina's b-day shawl

tell me that's not a German Flag in there

On other fronts Rich and I went on a tattoo date on Friday. I took the day off from work and we headed up to Rick’s Tattoo in Arlington and got some new ink. I have a growing piece on my left leg, and Rich has a growing piece on his right arm. I worked on the leaf socks while Rich was getting his tattoo. I tried to wind some yarn while I was getting my tattoo but decided to quit before I made the tightest center pull ball of yarn ever. Man, I’m never going to get a tattoo on that part of my body ever again. That had to be the most painful inking job I’ve ever gotten. Just say no to inner foot areas. Ow, ow, ow!

oh yes, you will be able to schlep many many things in that French Market Bag. The tatts look nice. I hear the ankle is the worst, so you can survive anything now!
