Into the fold
So our new roommate Brooke has been recruited into the knitting fold. We have another one! mwaha, mwahaha, mwahahahaha! We attempted to go to Uniquities last Friday but arrived too late and found the store closed, so we settled for Hancock Fabrics down the street. She picked up her first pair of bamboo needles and some Lion Brand Bulky to knit up a green and rust colored scarf. I told her there was no turning back, that she will forever be changed, resorting to her own battle of increasing her stash and overcomitting to clothe the world in knitted good. She didn't listen, she forged on any way.
In other news, apart from the new recruit and some sock progress, this weekend was quite eventful. Firstly, I made a list of projects that needed finishing and swore not to buy a single scrap of yarn until the list was demolished. I finished knitting up some pouches for my needles and promised myself to felt them come Monday (that's today).
The highlight of the weekend was our celebration of the 8th annual Birthday of the Universe Film Festival, where new and old friends got together to showcase original short films. It was an awesome turnout this year and hopefully it will continue to grow as we collect more to join our minions.
In between showing movies I was able to start and finish a quick and dirty scarf for my sister Nina. I used some #13s and a skein of Lion Brand Fun Fur (Tiger Eye color). The pattern in the band was soo easy peasy, and the thing knit up in two hours. After the film fest, we moved the party to our house where my hands proceeded to knit up a little pouch for my digital camera (without my knowing it). I realized later that I subconciously noted during the festival that my camera was homeless, naked, and unprotected throughout the evening and needed an outfit. It was finished by the time our guests headed home at 3:30am.
With all that knitting done my hands are still twitching to get some new things started. I'm dreaming about using up my left over lamb's pride for a felted tote or purse of some sort. I am also drooling to start on my next pair of socks. The colors are just so scrumptious I can't stop fondling the skein.
